Jillian is part-owner of this property. That changes everything about how the week works. The staff isn't hosting tourists, they're hosting her people. The kitchen cooks for our table. The schedule bends around what the group wants to do, because there is no other group.

The Samaná Peninsula is the Dominican Republic most visitors never see. Green mountains that fall straight into the ocean, whales in the bay, beaches you reach by boat or not at all.

The week

What we're actually doing.

  • The takeover

    Araya Resort is ours for the week. Ocean-view rooms with balconies, the infinity pool, the yoga shala, every meal and every evening.

  • The catamaran

    A full-day catamaran into Los Haitises National Park, locked in for everyone.

  • The cooking class

    A Dominican cooking class night that turns a group of travelers into the table you don't want to leave.

  • Your call

    Scuba, the waterfall hike, ATV, horseback, the seven-beach walk, spa days, town runs, or a hammock and nothing at all. Pick when you arrive.

Included: the full-week itinerary, all adventures, group dinners, airport transfers, and a spa massage. A few menu extras (scuba, ATV, horseback, additional spa) carry their own charges. Travel insurance required.

We take over the entire resort, and nine rooms are open to guests. We are not adding a second hotel. Nine rooms is the whole trip. Take a room to yourself, bring a partner, or come solo and we'll match you with another solo traveler at the shared rate.
